Picture of Nuclear Fuel Assembly

The picture to the far left shows a single fuel bundle. A fuel bundle is made up of several individual fuel rods packaged into a unit. A commercial nuclear reactor is powered by several of these bundles arranged into a matrix, as shown in the picture to the immediate left. Used fuel refers to a bundle that has been "burned" in a nuclear reactor to the point that buildup products prevent it from yeilding useful energy. However, used fuel still contains 95% of its original energy and can be recycled for more electricity.
